Starting Up
After your office computer finishes starting up, the following screen is displayed.

The Start Menu
To access SOE software from your computer:
- Click Start in the bottom left of the screen
- Click All Programs
A menu will be displayed similar to the one below. As you move your mouse
over various menu items, further menus will appear.

Office 2003
The
first menu item is Office 2003 . From here you can access:
- Microsoft Word
- Microsoft Excel
- Microsoft Project
- Microsoft Access
- Microsoft PowerPoint
- Microsoft Outlook
- Microsoft Publisher
- Microsoft InfoPath
QUT Software
The
second menu item is QUT Software. From here you can access:
- Multimedia
- QUT Diary
- Utilities
- Acrobat Reader 8.0
- Eudora
- Internet Explorer

Multimedia
From
the Multimedia menu you can access:
- QuickTime Player
- Windows Media Player

Utilities

From the Utilities menu you can access Symantec Antivirus , Secure Shell Client and Microsoft Outlook configuration.
To ensure that your antivirus software is up to date:
- Click Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition
- Click the Live Update button
This button will be greyed out if you do not have administrators right or if it has been locked down on the server side.
- Click Exit when the update has completed.

DVD Software
From the DVD Software menu you can access software to play and create DVD media.
Each vendor supplies a different set of DVD software for each machine. The software shown here is an example of what may be included with a
machine.

Quick Launch and System Tray
Your Quick Launch toolbar is located in the bottom left of your screen.
From here you can access 'shortcuts' to some commonly used SOE software.
From left to right the icons shown are; Internet Explorer, MS Access, MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS Powerpoint, MS Word, Quicktime, QUT Diary, Show
Desktop.

The
System Tray is located in the bottom right of your screen. The System
Tray contains the computer clock and a group of icons of some currently
running programs. From here you can easily access currently running programs
such as Symantec Antivirus, show here by the yellow shield.
Identifying the SOE Version
The SOE as a whole is distinguished by a version number defined as
VersionNumber – Year - Operating System.revision
Eg. V1-07-WXP.1
To identify your SOE version, look in the right hand side of the Windows
Desktop. The version number will be located in the wallpaper.

Word Templates
From
within Microsoft Word:
- Click New... from the File menu
- On the right hand side of the screen under Templates Click On my computer...
- Click QUTblankle.dot to use the QUT Letter template
Click QUTfax.dot to use the QUT Fax template or
Click QUTmemo.dot to use the QUT memo template.
- Click OK.
