[Print-friendly version]

Information Technology Services is responsible for Standard Operating Environment (SOE):

  • Development
  • Testing
  • Distribution
  • Deployment
  • Maintenance
  • Supplier Liason
  • Communication
  • Version Control

(This excludes faculty components of the SOE)

Development

Information Technology Services is responsible for the packaging of all SOE components except Faculty Applications. Development advice (eg how to package components) is provided to Faculties who wish to
maintain their own SOE component to ensure compatibility.

Testing

Information Technology Services is responsible for the testing of all non-Faculty SOE components, in collaboration with Faculty and Division Computing Support Officers (CSOs).

Distribution

Internal clients (CSOs) can obtain copies of current SOE components (including image form) from the IT Services SOE server. IT Services additionally undertakes to provide images in a format which do not require Faculties and Divisions to purchase additional mastering software in order to create bootable media.

Deployment

All QUT supplied workstations will be delivered with the current SOE preinstalled.

Maintenance

Information Technology Services is responsible for continuous maintenance of SOE components (excluding Faculty Applications) through 'minor' version updates and patches as required.

Supplier Liason

Unless otherwise instructed by the purchaser, SOA Suppliers install a nominated default SOE on workstations prior to delivery.

Communication

SOE management activities are to be communicated to clients (including all staff involved in IT support). This includes :

  • Current component operating systems, applications and version numbers;
  • Management Team documents and committee papers;
  • A register of which Faculties maintain their own 'Faculty Applications' component with contact details;
  • A form for requesting specific changes to future revisions of the SOE.

Version Control

The SOE as a whole is distinguished by a version number defined as

VersionNumber – Year - Operating System.Revision

Eg. V1-07-WXP.1

A maximum of two versions of the SOE are to be released each year.
