What is an Internet Access Allocation (IAS)?
The Internet Access Service is designed to provide an appropriate level of information technology service to all University staff and students. The University provides all QUT staff and students with a free Internet Allocation to do the university related work. Please check the Internet Access Service web site for more details.

Does my QUT Dial-in connection use my Internet Access Allocation (IAS) to access the Internet (i.e. external web sites)?
Yes. If you visit any web sites outside QUT's network, your Internet Access Allocation will be used.

How can I check my Internet usage?
You can check your Internet usage within QUT Virtual or the Internet Access Service web site.

How can I download software from the Internet without using up my Internet Access (IAS) allocation?
You can download some software from the Software Downloads page on the QUT Dial-In web site and save your Internet quota. You can also download software from the AARNET mirror web site. Downloads from the AARNET mirror are most cost effective and faster.

My modem makes strange 'screeching' sounds for a very long time and does not stop until the modem hangs up. What should I do?
Some modems need similar kind of modems to connect. Experiment using different Access Numbers until you make a successful connection.

How can I turn the Call Waiting off on my phone before making a QUT Dial-in connection?
Dial #43# on your phone BEFORE you dial into QUT to turn call waiting off. Dial *43# on your phone to turn the call waiting on again after you have disconnected from QUT dial .
