Service Overview
The QUT Dial-In service, allows you to connect to the Internet and access QUT's
IT services using a modem. It provides connection speeds up to 56K.
QUT Dial-In service uses your Internet Access allocation to access the Internet.
However any information obtained from QUT's network (e.g. Library catalogue,
OLT web site and QUT web servers) does not affect your allocation. Please refer
to the Internet
Access Service web site for more information.
What do you need to use this service?
1. Computer Accounts
- QUT-Access username and password.
2. Hardware requirements
- Minimum hardware configuration of a Pentium computer with 16 megabytes of
RAM.
- Microsoft Windows 95 or above or MacOS 8.5 or above.
- 28.8K, 33.6K or 56K modem.
- A telephone line and a current telephone service with one of the major carriers
at your expense.
Service Availability
- Available to all QUT staff who have a QUT-Access username
and password.
- Available to post-graduate research students and international
students as international fees include dial-in services.
- Access to the QUT Dial-In service is for unlimited hours, but if the service
becomes congested, staff or students who have been connected the longest will
be disconnected.
- If you live outside the Brisbane metropolitan area you may prefer to connect
through a local Internet Service provider using the QUT Secure
Access Service to avoid STD charges will apply.
- Access to the QUT Dial-In Service is subject to scheduled network maintenance
(Wednesday 10:00 pm to 7:00 am).
