The information below covers data outlet installations and/or relocations only. The costs shown do not include activation.

Includes CAT5E & CAT6 sites (see Notes below)
$Cost

Standard charge per outlet

$200 ea (flat rate)

Relocation of Existing Outlets (see Note 3)
$Cost

Standard charge per outlet

$130 ea (flat rate)

Notes:

  1. CAT6 sites include Creative Industries Precinct, IHBI Building KG, A block CA. Only CAT6 cable instrastructure must be installed and used within a CAT6 site.

  2. Gigabit Ethernet must be connected over a minimum of CAT5E cable infrastructure. Investigations by Network Services to determine if the cable infrastructure complies to CAT5E will apply. If your building is not a CAT6 site then CAT5E cable infrastructure will be installed. Requests for Gigabit Ethernet connections are subject to conditions. Please consult with Network Services via the IT Helpdesk (x.84000) or lodge a Data Work Request Form.

  3. Relocations are subject to conditions which include:

    • Existing cable length and path via ceiling and wall routes
    • Standard of cable infrastructure (only CAT5E infrastructure or better will be relocated)
    • Accessibility

QUT staff are not expected to evaluate this criteria and further inspection by the cabling contractor is required. If the outlet to be relocated does not meet the criteria stated then a new cable must be re-run at a cost of $200 per outlet.

  4. In compliance with Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet cabling standards the specified maximum CAT5E or CAT6 cable length between Network Interface Card (NIC) and active device is 100 metres. This includes a maximum 5 metre lead at either end and 90 metres maximum fixed wiring in the walls. Installations are subject to investigations by Network Services. Please consult with Network Services via the IT Helpdesk (x.84000) or lodge a Data Work Request Form.
