Notes:
-
Gigabit Ethernet equals 1000 Megabits per second. Gigabit Ethernet activations are conditional and available for servers only. All Gigabit Ethernet activations must connect over a minimum of CAT5E cable infrastructure. Investigations by Network Services to determine if the cable infrastructure complies to CAT5E will apply.
-
Charging model based on the installation of a 24port Gigabit Ethernet switch. 6 ports shall be reserved for Gigabit connections to servers per Gigabit Ethernet switch. Repeat charging model for every block of 6 activations. Activation includes the provision of new desktop flylead.
- In compliance with Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet cabling standards the specified maximum CAT5E or CAT6 cable length between Network Interface Card (NIC) and active device is 100 metres. This includes a maximum 5 metres lead at either end and 90 metres maximum fixed wiring in the walls. Gigabit Ethernet activations are subject to investigations by Network Services. Clients activating Gigabit Ethernet over CAT5E should endeavour to keep the desktop flylead to a minimal length. Please consult with Network Services via the IT Helpdesk (x.84000) or lodge a Data Work Request Form.
