  1. CAT6 sites must use CAT6 desktop flyleads only otherwise problems could occur. CAT6 sites include Creative Ind Precinct, IHBI Building KG, A block CA.

  2. Grey 5 metre CAT6 desktop flyleads not available. Please consult with Network Services via Helpdesk (x. 84000) for CAT6 flylead options exceeding 3 metres. Refer to the colour coding standards used at QUT by Network Services.

  3. In compliance with Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet cabling standards the specified maximum CAT5E cable length between Network Interface Card (NIC) and active device is 100 metres. This includes a maximum 5 metres leads at either end and 90 metres maximum fixed wiring in the walls. Requests for desktop flyleads greater than 5 metres will require an investigation by Network Services to determine if the cable run complies to the 100 metres rule. Note that desktop flyleads longer than 5 metres are not standard. Conditions apply. Clients activating Gigabit Ethernet over CAT5E should endeavour to keep the desktop flylead to a minimal length. Please consult with Network Services via the IT Helpdesk (x.84000) or lodge a Data Work Request Form.
