Communications Installations and Administration is the primary Information Technology Services (ITS) group responsible for the provision and installation of data and voice communications in a Capital Works Project, ensuring that new work adheres to the Communications section of the QUT Design Standards and Guidelines. These projects can range from small refurbishments to the construction of new buildings.
Communications Installations and Administration consists of two teams, they are
Communications Administration and Network Installations.
In large Capital Works projects (such as the construction of new buildings) Network Installations are the primary contact and shall be involved at the earliest possible stage. During this early involvement Network Installations will provide a Communications Budget estimate and an updated Communications Specification. Later involvement will include working closely with Communications Administration to determine telephone requirements and other Infrastructure Services groups to determine technical design.
Minor Capital Works projects (such as small refurbishments) may be dealt with via a separate process. In these instances the Facilities Management Project Manager may use a Telephone or Data Service Request Form. These forms can be located from the following links:

Responsibilities that Network Installations assume for Capital Works Projects include:
- The communications budget estimate for data and voice requirements
- Consultation with engineering consultants and provision of updated communications specifications
- Consultation with stakeholders and project representatives
- IT design brief/recommendation
- Sign-off and acceptance of pre-tender documents
- Attendance of site-meetings
- Site inspections
- Consultation with ITS groups regarding technical design, installation and support
- Data and voice activation program
- Procurement, installation and activation of data and voice equipment
- Sign-off installation "as complete" and supply of final costs to Project Manager
Communications Installations and Administration will apply a maximum surcharge of 20% to all active communications (voice and data) equipment and associated extras. The surcharge is an approved University User Charging registered surcharge -
ref. Internal User Charging - ID.275. Applicable items for the surcharge include:
- Switches and/or Routers
- Transceivers
- PABX equipment
- Access points and Antennae
The 20% surcharge covers operational, technical and project management costs for Infrastructure Services staff.
