What does it cost to use the HPC system?

In general free use will apply if the work is unfunded or the only funding sources are QUT's own funds or grants from the Australian Research Council (ARC) and possibly some other government funding bodies. Free or discount use will not apply if the project is for commercial consultancy or research and the University or user is receiving funds for it.

Are there any quotas in place?

At this time there are no quotas on disk, memory or CPU usage. We would suggest that you don't do the following:

  • Store execessively large files in your home directory (see "Where should I put my temporary files?" below)
  • Run many memory intensive jobs at the same time
  • Run many CPU intensive jobs at the same time

Where should I put my temporary/large files?

The temporary filesystems are intended for short-term use, usually during the running of a program. Although the usual /tmp directory exists, it is quite small and should not be used. A special high capacity directories called /fastwk, /fastft and /fastmth are provided for the purpose.
