Since 1990, QUT has provided supercomputing hardware facilities for its research program. In 2007 QUT purchased two new high-performance systems which will be available to students and researchers.

The first machine is an SGI Altix 4700 SMP supercomputer (boasting 96 64bit Itanium 2 cores and 198GB RAM), and the second machine is an SGI Altix XE Cluster (containing 112 64bit Intel Xeon cores). Both systems share a heirarchical data storage system which will provide over 50 TeraBytes of storage to QUT researchers.

High-end workstations are available for use within the HPC Visualisation and Advanced Computing laboratory on Level 7, V Block (Library), Gardens Point.

Various operating systems are also available: Microsoft Windows, OSX and Linux.

The Access-Grid node runs on HP Linux workstations and three video projectors, also with an echo cancellation device, cameras and microphones. This room (V713, Level 7, V Block (Library) Gardens Point, is available for booking. This collection of integrated devices enables QUT host realtime video conferencing and collabration to other AccessGrid nodes anywhere in the world.

Access to the HPC systems can be requested via the online form provided.
