Purpose

The Technical Infrastructure Development group (TIDG) will facilitate a high level channel of information discovery of impacts for conceived ITS technical infrastructure initiatives, including new projects and major service changes.

Elements to consider include:

  • Technical architecture
  • Infrastructure capacity
  • Cross-sectional considerations
  • Integration across other areas at QUT
  • Cost
  • Benefits, including ROI
  • Feasibility

The group will be composed of selected technical staff and IT roadmap owners. Consultation will occur with external stakeholders to ensure that outcomes best fit in with requirements and University business.

Process

The TIDG will be closely aligned with the Project Management Framework and the University Change Advisory Board (CAB). A process overview of the alignment of the PMF and the CAB with the TIDG is available here - TIDG Process Overview.

One of the mechanisms the TIDG will use to assess the impact on the QUT infrastructure is the Change Request – Approval to Build (formerly known as the Infrastructure Impact Statement) which will need to be submitted and endorsed by the TIDG for all major service changes before seeking CAB approval. A PMF project proposal or project plan may be used instead of the Change Request – Approval to build submission to assess the impact on the QUT infrastructure with the aim to minimise documentation.
