VirusesViruses are common on the internet. Although the QUT email system scans all email attachments for viruses it is recommended that you do not open attachments that come from a source you do not trust as they may contain computer viruses which can corrupt your computer. Viruses/attachments may also come, or appear to come from sources you do know. SpamSpam otherwise known as unsolicited junk mail is sent to your inbox and can transmit malicious programs such as viruses or overfill your inbox. Phishing ScamsPhishing attempts to fraudulently acquire sensitive information such as passwords and credit card details by masquerading as a business or individual via email. Phishing scams work by sending what appears to be a legitimate email asking the recipient to follow the embedded link and verify their account details. The link provided in the email links to a spoofed (illegitimate) web site. If the user fills in the requested information their bank account will be illegally accessed and emptied.
