As information technology becomes integral within our communities, so Queensland University of Technology (QUT) continues to strive to provide the highest quality IT services possible to the QUT community. This emphasis on quality IT service provision is part of a larger University commitment to providing students the best possible learning experience.

QUT achieves much of this through the activities of the Information Technology Services (ITS) department. Made up of over 125 staff, with an operating budget of over $20 million and providing services to almost 5,000 staff and 40,000 students, ITS is an innovative group of specialists led by a eight-member management team. Departmental Director, Neil Thelander heads up the ITS Management Team who individually represent the seven sections within the department and are each accountable for key services.

Neil's strong departmental vision is to "support QUT's Vision with leading information technology services in partnership with the QUT community" which ensures IT service provision is closely linked with the University's strategic direction.

ITS provides a broad range of services that include the management of the three-campus data and phone network, all major corporate information systems (including student/staff portals), central servers, desktop standards and vendor relationships, and high performance computing facilities.

To ensure the very highest possible service levels into the future, ITS has implemented a continuous improvement process, has a centrally coordinated communication function and assists QUT staff to make best use of the available services through an effective learning and development program.

University funded IT projects are also achieved through ITS. A project portfolio office has been established within ITS to effectively oversee the projects and activities of the IT component Asset Management Plan - 2003 exp budget of $16.8M while also providing progress reports and requests for funding to the University's IT governance body.

ITS is a department within the Division of Technology, Information and Learning Support, which also includes the departments of Integrated Help Services Section, Teaching and Learning Support Services, QUT Library, and QUT Printing Services.
